BREEDING PARSON RUSSELL TERRIERS........

Peter lived on a smallholding as a young man and bred chickens and long white pigs, plus a few geese and ducks. He has brought this experience into our breeding of Parsons. in our home.

The choice to breed Parsons was largely determined both from, Peter's experience with Basil, a cross bred Parson, and  their small size to fit in our 3 bed semi-detached house. Basil the braveBasil the brave

Peter walked Basil together with an old sheepdog, Oliver, regularly in a large field at the bottom of his garden. Oliver lumbered along while Basil ran circles around him. When the 2 dogs were some way up the field, Peter noticed a woman had released her rottweiller which came hurtling down the field. Basil had quickly returned to where Peter stood but, Oliver was the rottweillers target. Peter could not think of anything he could do to save old Oliver but, Basil did. He set off and launched head first, striking the big dog in the chest, knocking him over and over. The impact was audible. Without looking back Basil walked leisurely beside old Oliver to safety while the Rottweiller retreated away.

Peter never forgets what Basil did, attributing such behaviour to the nature of a Parson Terrier.

Basil rarely did what he was told, if he made up his mind, thats what he intended to do but he was loyal and good company. Breeding Parsons is not easy and not for everyone. Linsey and Peter have bred Parsons for more than 20 years, with several generations selected by Linsey to ensure health and good nature.
